What Happens After Your Website Goes Live?

A website going live feels like the finish line. It isn’t, really. It’s the starting line. It’s the point where the website finally has to earn its keep. Customers use it. Google crawls it. Forms get tested by real enquiries. Pages start appearing in search. Small issues show up. New questions appear. The business starts noticing what else the website needs to do.

That’s why launch isn’t the end of the project. It’s the start of the website working in the real world.

The first checks after launch

After a website goes live, a few things need checking properly. Forms need testing. Contact details need checking. Tracking should be working. Redirects should be in place. The site should be reviewed on mobile and desktop. Search Console should be connected. Analytics should be recording data.

These aren’t glamorous jobs. But they’re important bacause a broken form, wrong phone number or missed redirect can cost enquiries. And because these issues are often small, they can sit there unnoticed if nobody is checking.

WordPress needs looking after

If your website is built in WordPress, it needs ongoing care. WordPress updates. Plugin updates. Theme updates. Backups. Security checks. Hosting. PHP versions. Broken links. Form testing.

It’s boring until something breaks. Then it becomes very interesting, very quickly.

A WordPress website isn’t fragile when it’s built and maintained properly. When you keep it maintained you get much better value out of it.

Content should keep improving

The best websites keep developing after launch. New pages. Better content. Stronger calls to action. Improved case studies. Better FAQs. More local search visibility. Stronger service pages.

Don’t let your website be treated like a printed brochure. Sat there with no changes for years and years. That defeats the reason for having it. You need to keep improving things, updating content, photos etc.

Once a site is live, you’ll start to see what else is needed. Customers will probabaly ask you the same question repeatedly. A service page needs more detail. A new case study would help. A local landing page could support SEO. A call to action needs tightening up.

A good website gives you room to keep moving and pushing forward.

SEO after launch

SEO shouldreally start when the website goes live. Your launch gives you the foundation. After that, the work continues.

You should check indexing, review search queries, improve service pages, add useful articles, build internal links, update content and monitor which pages are bringing in traffic and enquiries.

For some businesses, that becomes monthly SEO and content management and for others, it’s a lighter ongoing support. Either way, search visibility needs attention. A website left alone rarely improves by accident.

Tracking matters

Get some data in so you know what’s working and how vistors are using your website. With good data you can see people visiting the site. Which pages they’re landing on. How enquiries coming through? Which forms are the most used. You can check out if your key pages are getting visibility in Google and if visitors are using mobile or desktop devices. All this information helps make better decisions.

Without tracking, you’re guessing. And guessing isn’t a great strategy, even if we’ve all done it at some point.

Training and support

A well developed website should feel solid and maintainable. This means you should feel happy to login and make changes or at least contact your web designer for some support without being charged.

I believe clients should never feel locked out of their own website. It’s theirs, they own it.

Training helps. Clear editing areas help. A sensible WordPress setup helps. Support helps even more.

Most business owners don’t want to spend their week thinking about WordPress updates, broken forms and whether a plugin is safe to update.

Fair enough. That’s what supports for.

Why aftercare protects the investment

A new website is an investment. Aftercare protects it and without support, small issues can build up. Content gets outdated. Plugins fall behind. Pages stop reflecting the business. Competitors improve. Search visibility drifts. Calls to action become stale.

None of this usually happens overnight. It creeps in over time…2 years, 3 years, 5years down the line.

That’s why ongoing support is so useful. It keeps the website moving in the right direction rather than slowly becoming another old website you need to replace.

What Bamboo can help with after launch

Bamboo can look after the unglamorous but important parts:

  • website hosting
  • WordPress updates
  • backups
  • security checks
  • content changes
  • new pages
  • SEO improvements
  • technical fixes
  • form testing
  • advice and support

We don’t believe a website should be launched and forgotten. The goal is to give you a website that keeps improving, not one that looks nice on launch day and then quietly gets ignored.

Your website should keep working for the business

Once your website’s live, it should become part of how your business grows. We all know the term ROI – Return On Investment. Well it’s right. You’ve spent money building a website. Now that website should bring in enough enquiries and sales to support growth.

It should produce enquiries, help customers understand your services, give Google useful content to work with and make the business look as capable online as it is in real life.

That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens through proper support, useful content and steady improvement. Not always dramatic. Not always exciting. But it’s so important.

Is your live website being looked after?

If your website is live but nobody is really looking after it, Bamboo can help keep it updated, supported and moving in the right direction.
